Has your Friends group considered how to use Australian Pollinator Week to promote your botanic garden, growing Aussie pollinator plants and the vital role of pollinators?
Early November is a great time to promote botanic gardens when the flowers are out and the pollinators are busy. To make it easier for Friends and volunteers to plan events the Australian Pollinator Week a special website sponsored by the Wheen Bee Foundation has some fabulous resources to help you organise fun events and some citizen science activities.

Some ideas for Friends of Botanic Gardens to celebrate pollinators week:
Plant Sale – organise a big plant sale with local media stories in the lead up to the week about the value of plants as pollinators and how to grow them. The Australian Pollinator Week website includes very useful resources on planting guides for pollinators, by region of Australia.
Pollinators Picnic – organise a community picnic event with some fun activities to learn about some of the flowers in the garden and the pollinators.
Conduct a Pollinators Count - as a citizen science activity to foster learning about pollinators. A detailed guide on how to organise this can be found on the website. This includes a ‘Learner Guide” to get to know the pollinators.
Photography Workshop – organise a workshop with a local photographer to provide hints and tips for taking photos of pollinators at work on flowers using a phone camera and other simple equipment. Display examples of photos with the identity of the pollinator.
