s Welcome from our Patron - Australian Association of Friends of Botanic Gardens

We all love our botanic gardens, and they have such special significance for our communities: we revere our older gardens for their landscapes and generational memories of family visits, while new gardens hold promise of future beauty and happy experiences. They’re all places of pleasure and enjoyment, of knowledge and education, and of understanding and commitment to environmental conservation.

Increasingly, though, botanic gardens old and new are facing funding and staffing pressures. Many gardens – especially those in regional areas - are reliant now on their Friends groups for energetic hands-on help with horticultural care, advocacy and fundraising. And as Friends we all benefit from hearing about the experiences of colleagues and other Friends groups – which is where our Association plays such a vital role. With 59 members across Australia, and associate members in New Zealand, Scotland, Fiji and South Africa, AAFBG is a critical link between Friends groups, a helpful source of information, and a strong voice supporting botanic gardens.

So welcome to our bright new informative website! Here’s the right place to find out what AAFBG is doing, get the latest news from BGCI, access links to other Friends groups and botanical organisations, read our newsletter Eucalypt (plus back-numbers of Campsis), and enjoy photos of glorious gardens. Become a regular on-line visitor to AAFBG!
